Help with action and linking verbs?
Hi.! I need help with my english class... I have to label each verb as ACTION or LINKING VERB but I'm kind confused so I'm giving 10 points to that person that wants to help me. I'm not saying that I want someone of Yahoo makes me the homework but if someone can help me I know that I will understand. Thank you.! =]
***This are the sentences:
1.Many people have wondered about ostriches.
2.Ostriches look for plants, lilzards and turtles.
3.These animals roams the plains of East Africa.
4.They look unusual.
5.Ostriches are the largest birds in the world.
6.It can run faster than a horse.
7.Its feet are very strong.
8.Many people believed a myth about ostriches.
9.This myth is not true.
10.Have you ever felt an ostrich's feathers?
A way to tell if the verb is an action or linking verb is to substitute the verb with the word SEEMS. For instance, the verb in #4 is different from the verb in #2. They are both the verb LOOK, but if you change #2 (Ostriches look for plants, lizards, and turtles) into "Ostriches seems for plants, lizards, and turtles." the sentence doesn't make sense. If you substitute SEEMS into #4, the sentence would become "They seem unusual." which makes sense, right? If the sentence makes sense after you substitute the "seem" or "seems" in, the verb is a linking verb.

2. look is an action verb
3. roam is an action verb
4. look is a linking verb
5. are is a linking verb (Ostriches seem like the largest...)
6. can run is a linking, but run is an action verb.
7. are is a linking verb
8. believed is an action verb
9. is is a linking verb
10. felt is an action verb.
edit: Marlon P, "felt" is not a linking verb unless it is you are "feeling." For instance, in this sentence "The ostrich's feathers feel soft." feel is a linking verb because you can sub it with seems. Though it can be confusing without this rule ^-^
